Adopting a dog

Hey everyone, two blog posts in one day? Someone's had a motivation kick up the butt.

I thought I'd share my experience with adopting a dog from the RSPCA and hopefully give someone the inspiration to check out their local shelter and see what animals need their forever homes.

So last year I had to have my first ever dog put to sleep, her name was Bella and a close family friend gave her to us as she could no longer look after her and we had her for a very long time. Unfortunately she had a rare form of stomach cancer that we didn't know about until it was too late, she was really good at putting on a front and acting as if she was okay. We decided as a family that we wouldn't get another dog, but the house was too empty without her presence.

The idea of getting another dog wasn't ever discussed until one day me and my mum found ourselves looking on the RSPCA's website just to have a browse at what poor dog's were in the kennels and needed to be rehomed. We found a lovely dog called Honey that we originally was going to see but when we got there she was reserved which is brilliant as some dogs stay in the kennels for months, and most of them stay in there for years without finding a family to adopt them. We were looking round the kennels and we came across this sweet little girl in the enclosure getting her daily exercise when she ran up to the fence and was wagging her little tail, and that was when we fell in love.

I guess you could say that she had picked us? Because after that we reserved her without evening thinking about it, we knew it was meant to be and that she had to get out of the kennels. I mean I wish I could adopt every animal in there because no animal deserves to be behind bars.

Unfortunately it took us a little longer than expected to get her home because she became unwell, they thought that their was a doggy stomach virus going round the kennels as some of the dogs had became poorly, but she was soon in tip top shape for us to eventually take her to her forever home.

Some of the stories you read/hear about with some of the animals in there are really heart breaking, and you honestly do wonder how humans could ever be that cruel to animals. But it's people like my family who really save them, as nothing beats a bit of love to really let the animal recover from their trauma.

I'll insert some pictures that I have of her from the beginning to what she looks like now.

Here's a small slide show of how far she has came, if you wanted to keep track of her progress and see what mischief she gets up to you could follow her instagram @poppettherescue.

Thank you for taking the time out to read this post, I hope you have enjoyed it!
